David and Nealy Riley work side by side on twin easels in their shared studio. They offer one another honest feedback and often collaborate on ideas and techniques.
The exhibition is Arizona inspired, both of the artists drawing inspiration from their time spent in the desert and their love for the regional flora and fauna. Together they offer a mix of portraits and herd animals, their distinctive styles complementing one another in a joint installation.
"I love Nealy's use of mixed media and abstracted backgrounds. Her work is a great combination of colors, textures and interesting wildlife", says David.
Set against a background of negative space, David's animals exist untethered by context, lending an ethereal quality. Riley's mixed media backgrounds frequently combine oil and gold or metal leafing harmonizing three-dimensional form and graphic patterns and shape.
"I love David’s ability to capture the essence of animal in a way that looks effortless. He paints efficiently and makes confident decisions in his painting that give them a beautiful fresh quality.", Nealy says.
