KEVIN KEHOE: WESTERN NIGHT, WESTERN LIGHT

KEVIN KEHOE, "WESTERN NIGHT, WESTERN LIGHT" | ALTAMIRA SCOTTSDALE

Altamira Fine Art Scottsdale is pleased to present a solo exhibition for Utah artist Kevin Kehoe, just in time for the holidays. "Western Night, Western Light" features eye-catching nocturnes that set the mood for the winter season and call on the drama of twilight hours.

Please join us for the Artist Reception during the annual Holiday ArtWalk, Thursday, December 14 from 6:30-9pm.  Meet the Artist and enjoy a festive atmosphere with wine and holiday treats.

My new series of nocturnal paintings celebrate the beauty that electric light has against a Western night. When the sun surrenders to the wattage of night, the mundane of day gets transformed into scenes that captivate. As a painting challenge, darkness interrupted by light has offered me beautiful palette possibilities, calming compositions and the reward offered by opposite elements beautifully struck.” –Kevin Kehoe

An illuminated structure creates intrigue and curiosity into another world and can offer a feeling of relief and comfort within the vastness of night. Western Night, Western Light focuses on small structures with a Western soul and reveals the loveliness of lighting the night. Several of the structures are along the original Route 66 in New Mexico and Arizona and are still open to this day.

Utah artist Kevin Kehoe calls himself a New American Painter because he observes the world around him through a keen lens. Finding joy in seeing uncommon beauty in common places and discovering the unbiased loveliness that light casts on all. Light and composition are paramount to what he paints and why.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Kevin Kehoe attend the Art Institute of Boston and grew up wonderfully inspired by the work of masters like Edward Hopper, John Singer Sargent, Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer, Johan Vermeer, Vincent Van Gogh, John Register, Georgia O'Keefe and Maynard Dixon just to name a few.

"John Register said it best when he labeled himself a Persistent Observer.  In that context, I try to capture how a moment in time or passing through a place can be remembered and relished. Simply put, I strive to paint how a place or experience made me feel, how I was tuned into it emotionally and how I absorbed and observed it.  Simply put, I paint how I want to recall something in my mind, and more importantly my heart."

Kehoe lives in Utah’s majestic Heber Valley and is inspired by the Wasatch and Uinta mountain ranges that surround his studio.  His wife, daughter Kate and rescue dog Ranger live in a log cabin in the foothills of the Uinta Mountains. Robert Redford once said, “Some people have therapy, I have Utah.” –Kevin Kehoe
