Lost at Last: A Painting Exhibition

Lost at Last: A Painting Exhibition

Rocky Hawkins
Artist Reception July 15th, 5:00 - 7:00 pm

Rocky Hawkins' art conveys emotions that vary from the bold and powerful to the soft and reflective.  Whatever feelings they invoke, they irresistibly invite the viewer to accompany the artist on his creative journey.   A self-defined "action painter", he refers to his technique as painting with gestures. His highly kinetic splashing, smearing, and splattering is highly reminiscent of his 1940 era expressionist heroes such as Jackson Pollck, Willem de Kooning, Robeert Motherwell, and Franz Kline.

Hawkins approach to painting is a departure from reality.  The creative discovery that happens in his painting process is a result of an individual journey where losing himself is the answer to which creative direction to follow.  That process is the basis for the title of his show -"Lost at Last".  His use of color and abstract shapes merge to create an unforgettable sense of energy and power.

"Utilizing fervent use of color, composition and texture with indelible mystery and intrigue, Rocky's art arrests the eye, fascinates the mind and exhilarates the soul.  Observations become journeys that become passage.  Living with his artwork is akin to being a medium visiting vanished or unimaginable worlds."  -- Dean Munn, Sales Director, Altamira Fine Art
