Sanders' work depicts the farmlands, hills, rivers, and trees reminiscent of his youth in a small northern Utah town. His artistic point of view is serenely contemplative and manifests itself with the subdued palette of early Spring and late Autumn -- soft browns, dusky yellows, burnt reds, as well as blues and greens muted by gray. His barn architecture series of paintings reveal a wide array of structurally unique and appealing barns that resonate with the viewer on an emotional level. In 2000, Sanders won the prestigious People's Choice Award for the arts in the Park Competition. In the same year, He was one of a handful of artists featured in Southwest Art Magazine's "21 under 31" issue. Jared's work can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
Sanders' artistic process is measured and very detailed. After scouting potential landscape subjects and taking hundreds of snapshots, he sorts through the best candidates, sketching some in pencil. He then transfers the sketch to gesso board using brown or sienna oils finished in warm gray or ochre tones. He then focuses on getting one object or shape in the painting perfect. The rest of the painting and the colors build from and relate to that object or shape.
