John will also be signing copies of "Forces of Nature" - the stunning and comprehensive new book about his life and work. With more than 180 color plates, this beautiful and lavishly illustrated book promises to awaken the senses. For the first time, it includes John Nieto's recent series of twenty-five paintings exploring the chromatic persona of Sioux Chief Sitting Bull. Of special interest is the chapter on limited editions, offering documentation for the thousands of collectors who prize Nieto's prints. Written by Susan Hallsten McGarry, "Forces of Color and Spirit" contains 179 pages and measures 15" X 13".
Nieto's paintings combine reverence for his Spanish and Apache heritage with a sophisticated worldview. He depicts Native peoples as icons of dignity and unity while his buffalo, bears, and coyotes are symbols of survival. Each subject is captured in pulsating saturated hues that affirm the vibrant spirituality inherent in all living things.
