The Pastures of Heaven: One Man Show

The Pastures of Heaven: One Man Show

Theodore Waddell
Artist's Reception August 19th 5:00 – 7:00

Theodore Waddell splits his time between his ranches and studios in Idaho and Montana and paints primarily what he sees - horses and cows.  Over the last several years, buffalo have been added to the mix.  The title of his latest shows reflects his life in those two states in addition to being a Shakespearean quote and the title of a John Steinbeck novel.  Waddell's subject matter and the techniques in which he renders them are constants but his aim is to always present his work in a fresh new way.  In the artist's own words, "Every time you look out the window, everything is different.  It may appear the same but there's always new information."

"In a world where Western art is highly representational and often photo realistic, Waddell's work is excitingly abstract, ingeniously impressionistic, and keenly contemporary.  Most significantly, Ted's art is derived from passionate emotional connections with his environment, transcribed intuitively while engrossed in oils, encaustics, brushes, palette knives, and canvas."
- Dean Munn, Sales Director, Altamira Fine Art

Influenced by Abstract Expressionists such as Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock and Hans Hofmann, Waddell uses layers of translucent encaustics mixed with oil paints to create surfaces that react with light in a way that magnifies his message of "atmosphere" and suggests the illusion of changing daylight and season.  His work draws a deliberate parallel between his subject and the elements of abstract art.

In addition, all of the original art from the artist's children's book "Tucker Gets Tuckered" will also be on exhibit.  This whimsical tale of a dog and his daily adventures was written by Ted Beckstead and is illustrated by Ted Waddell.
