Altamira Fine Art 2009/10 Winter News
Winter has arrived in Jackson Hole and Altamira is launching into the season with one of its most popular annual Holiday shows. Read about it and some of the other highlights and news that art lovers and patrons can expect from Altamira this season in the following section.
Amy Ringholz Solo Winter Show
Amy Ringholz’ annual winter show is the perfect way to kick off the Holiday season at
Altamira. Her bright and colorful canvases depicting our local wildlife add a new dimension of merriment and warmth to this festive season. Her annual shows and receptions have become natural gatherings for locals and visitors alike whose spirits are lifted by her energetic and imaginative works of art. Come celebrate with us at her reception on Friday, December 18th between 5 PM and 7 PM at the gallery. Amy’s show will run through January 8th of 2010.
Altamira Welcomes Bill Shenck
Altamira is pleased to welcome iconic contemporary Western artist Bill Schenck to the gallery. Schenck’s art incorporates techniques from Photo-Realism and Pop Art to both praise and mimic classic western images. His work is characterized by hot colors, surreal juxtapositions and patterning which explore clashes between wilderness and civilization, the individual and community, nature and culture, freedom and restriction. Mythic yet real, contemporary yet traditional, serious yet humorous, comic and tragic, Schenck’s paintings cause us to reflect on the universal paradoxes. Be sure to see samples of this important artist’s work on our Website or during your next visit to the gallery.
Special Exhibition by Guest Artists
Altamira is excited to feature three guest artists during this Holiday Season. Bregelle Whitworth Davis, Andree Hudson, and John Greene will exhibit selected works.
Growing up near Jackson, Davis is a colorist whose style resembles the illusion of silk screening yet retains the textured surface of a painting. While her palette is limited, she has an exceptional talent to bring out the life and energy of each subject.
Andree Hudson’s art features large dramatic brush strokes that enliven her subjects while her use of contrasting light and dark colors create an intimacy between the viewer and the subject. Her wish is to convey her subjects in a captured moment of contemplative silence.
John Greene’s passion is the process fueled by the sensuality of painting. More than anything, he favors the smells, textures, decisions and serendipitous accidents created by the paint and other natural elements he employs in his art. His landscapes depict imagined rather than actual realms that reveal new insights upon each viewing.
Visit our Website to see these artists’ works for yourself or stop in the gallery to appreciate their art in person.
