Donna Howell-Sickles “A Jackson Hole Holiday” Show

Donna Howell-Sickles’ art retells women’s stories and myths using the cowgirl as a medium.  Her energetic use of color projects a lightness of spirit and freedom and her measured use of mythic symbols and icons tells a story within a story.  Come celebrate Donna and her art with us at her first Altamira reception on Friday, February 12th between 5 PM and 7 PM at the gallery.  Donna’s show will run through February 28th..

Altamira Acquires Bill Schenck Prints

Altamira has acquired 21 prints from iconic contemporary Western artist Bill Schenck.  Schenck’s art incorporates techniques from Photo-Realism and Pop Art to both praise and mimic classic western images.  His work is characterized by hot colors, surreal juxtapositions and patterning which explore clashes between wilderness and civilization, the individual and community, nature and culture, freedom and restriction.  The 21 prints are from the sold out Bill Schenck catalog and represent a rare find for the discriminating collector.  Be sure to see them for yourself on our Website or during your next visit to the gallery.

More Honors for Howard Post

Altamira congratulates Howard Post on his painting “The Neighbor’s Favorite”  for being selected as Best of Show in the 2010 Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale.  The curator of the show, Rose Frederick, noted that “Howard Post is an iconoclast; a third generation rancher who depicts the sublime scenes and imagery he knows so well in a style that is bold yet subtle, true, modern, and unique.”   Fellow artist Bill Schenck believes, “Post has been amazingly consistent, he has never wavered and now is the MVP.”  And Thomas Brent Smith of the Denver Art Museum says, “Through the use of stark and serene colors, and thoughtfully sculpted compositions Post’s paintings spell the essence of his western world in Arizona.”  Congratulations Howard on an honor well deserved.
